COME FROM HEAVEN (2008) – 5 minutes | 16mm | NY, NY
Hook: Everyone is something they don’t want to be.
Logline: A chance encounter between an NYPD cop and a young woman causes them to explore their assumptions about each other and their understanding of themselves.
Synopsis: NYPD Officer Michael De Luca gets a pleasant interruption to his usual beat when he crosses paths with Malinda, a neighborhood Latina with the face of an angel and the curves of a goddess. Mesmerized by her raw sensuality and sex appeal, De Luca also believes that Malinda may be a prostitute. He follows her to investigate, but is soon hit by an unexpected turn of events. Simply looking to make a routine arrest, De Luca quickly realizes that he is in for more than he bargained for.

Director’s Commentary:
Come From Heaven was developed to be a visual exploration of the contagious nature of social stereotypes. With that goal in mind, the film evolved into a surrealist fable full of magical realism. The goal of the piece is to raise questions about why we consistently judge others around us, even though each of us can just as easily and justifiably be judged.
